Retinol in Facial Creams

If you’re lucky enough to have a dermatologist who agrees that you need some anti-aging or acne care, you might wind up with a prescription for retinoids. This special form of Vitamin A is considered the top product when it comes to anti-aging, but you have to have a prescription to get the strongest doses.

If you’d like the benefits of retinoids, but don’t have a doctor willing to prescribe it, you can find smaller doses of the same ingredient in many anti-aging skin cream lines available over the counter in drug stores and beauty specialty shops. These “cosmeceuticals” use retinol, a less intense dose of the Vitamin A form, to help smooth skin.

There are other proteins available through these creams that actually relax muscles in the face. When the muscles relax, the wrinkles and fine lines on the face relax as well. These new proteins are found in the same sort of anti-aging creams as the retinol.
