Products for skins

Ethnic minorities are poised to be the majority in the United States by 2042, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That means that ethnic skins and their unique attributes and concerns are a major driving force of today’s beauty business. There are pros and cons when it comes to ethnic skin. On the positive side, the photo protective role of melanin makes darker skins more resistant to wrinkles. The main downside of having more melanin is its reactivity to inflammation, which can lead to pigment changes. Skin lightening and uneven skin tones are the biggest concerns for women of color. ZM.
Recently, American beauty companies have started embracing skin of color. Here are a few of product lines designed for ethnic skin. 1. Specific Beauty: After spending a decade researching the best ingredients and treatments for multi-hued skin, dermatologist Dr. Heather Woolley Lloyd decided to create her own line. It’s available at Wal-Mart and the regimen is simple and effective.2.Ambi: From Johnson & Johnson comes perhaps one of the widest ranges of skincare offerings for women of color. From breakouts (and lingering discoloration after blemishes heal) and uneven skin tone to dryness and stretch marks, Ambit has solutions.3.Susan Taylor’s Rx for Brown Skin: Dermatologist Taylor has created a three-step system to control the excess pigment of many women of color. 4. Carol’s Daughter: You’ll love the great scents and effective formulations. 5. Elure: From the laser company Syneron a new technology that breaks down skin pigment. It is dispensed in a two-sided pump, with an enzyme on one side and an Activator on the other.     American dermatologists are under increasing pressure to tailor their treatments to skins of different colors. Some surgical procedures, lasers and even beauty products geared toward Caucasian skin can have potentially harmful side effects. The good news is, thanks to ongoing research, most dermatologists know what’s safe and what’s not for darker skins. But always make sure your dermatologist has experience treating skin of your color.
